Responding to IRS

This section is to help you understand how to respond to an IRS CP 2000 letter.

First thing you need to do when you get a letter from the IRS is to take a deep breath and call Valley Tax Service for an appointment. This no cost appointment will be to review the letter with you and explain what the IRS is requesting of you or your business. Most CP2000 letters have a time requirement attached to the request for the information. If you delay because you don't want to address the letter you may be subject to a fine. If you decide to wait until you get the second, third or fourth letter the fines could grow to a large amount.

Most of the time when a letter is sent to taxpayers the IRS wants more information about something on you tax return or to inform you that they recieved more documents from employers or other sources that were not part of your return. Response to this letter is simple and the most we may need to amend that years tax return.
